The Shogun Japanese Restaurant in UCSD's Price Center Game Room opened for business on March 29, 2004.
The team of Luis Jimenez and Corky Mills of Quest Construction recently completed $285,000 in tenant improvements at the 1,100 square foot facility as required to accommodate cooking, cleaning, storage and serving facilities for a Japanese restaurant. Work included construction of a full food preparation service kitchen and service area complete with equipment for a sushi cafeteria. Scope included complete plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems, epoxy flooring and food prep surfaces, finishes, millwork and architectural features emulating a Japanese cafeteria.
This is the second Shogun Restaurant to be built in San Diego and will be serving a variety of steak, chicken, tempura, sushi and other Japanese favorites. Fresh Sushi will be prepared by a Japanese Sushi chef on the premises for clientele. Shogun also offers a self-serve sushi case and warm and cold food trays along the counter for students on the go. Shogun emulates a Japanese cafeteria / restaurant with regular restaurant style seating also available. The full kitchen includes a fryer, a broiler and a specialty rice cooker and UCSD is very proud to offer this healthful, stylish, Pacific Rim venue.
The project was designed by Dowler Gruman Architect. Subcontractors included Green Plumbing, Level One Electric, System Operations Services, North County Acoustics, CDW, Mike Jackson Co, Brown Builders, Cosco Fire Protection, Ghianna LaRussa, DEC Consulting Engineers and MPE Consulting.
